A special honour was accorded to the austrian Olympic slalom champion Mario Matt. Before the penultimat world cup race of the season in Kranjska Gora (SLO), the Tyrolean was honoured by his equipment suppliers Blizzard and Tecnica, with custom-made skis and ski boots - in a gold look of course!
"Mario performed outstandingly! The Olympic slalom victory is a great shared success for which we would like to congratulate and thank him for the terrific cooperation ," says Blizzard head of marketing Thomas Rakuscha.

Around 45 international media representatives had come to the handing over in Kranjska Gora. It was Mario Matts first official appearance at a world cup race since the Olympic games in Sotchi. The interest was correspondingly keen, especially when it came to his further career plans. "Those were definately my last Olympic Games", the 34 year old explained. When asked about a possible contract extension with his suppliers Blizzard and Tecnica, he commented: "I have not had time after Olympia to think about that yet. Fact is, the cooperation functions very well, the equipment and set-up is perfect and we are going to have talks as quickly as possible about our continued cooperation." Blizzard racing director Bernhard Knauss expects a decision within the next two weeks.

Mario was obviously delighted with the golden ski and ski boots awarded to him. "It will have a special place on the wall in my living room". It is the first Olympic gold medal for the two-time slalom world champion. He was confindent in view of the world cup slalom on the following sunday. "My condition is good and the slope seems to be in good shape despite high temperatures. I will do my best as always to stand on the podium here in Kranjska Gora once again." After an excellent first run, he managed to build up a 0,56 second gap to Worldcup discipline leader Marcel Hirscher. Mario was the last athlete to start the second run, after having the fastest time in round one. Sadly he could not bring home the victory after an unfortunate fall at the penultimate gate and therefore remained without evaluation. The traveling Blizzard- and Tecnica fans applauded their star nevertheless. The world cup finals in Lenzerheide is Marios next chance to prove, that he´s the worlds fastest slalom racer.
